When Jesus entered Capernaum,
a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying,
“Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.”
He said to him, “I will come and cure him.”

It gets me every time – a Master, approaching Jesus, asking him to heal his servant.

The Gospel tells us that this centurion, was used to issuing orders – “And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

The humility it must have taken to go before Jesus – laying down his ego, laying down his social status, laying down his religious differences with those around him – seeking a miracle on behalf of a fellow man. And not just seeking a miracle, but believing with such faith that all Jesus had to do was “say the word” and his servant would be healed. Even Jesus marveled at his great faith!

Imagine if we all approached the Lord, especially during these days, in the same way – filled with humility, love for our neighbor, and expectant faith – the path of love we would leave in our wake.

Oh, that I might have a faith so great that the Lord says to us, “in no one in Israel have I found such faith.”(Mt. 8:10)
