Celibacy is both praised and practiced by our Lord and St. Paul. There are no grounds for claiming that it contradicts Sacred Scripture.

  1. Dear Fra Mary,
Your Scriptural explanations are most clarifying and profound to those of us today that wrestle with human interpretations of ortherwise a heavenly language. St Pauls comentaries on that which the Lord our God put into His heart are very revealing to that which encompasses mans to want to be in union with Gods will.Marriage is a beautiful thing when two come together who fear and love the Father, for who can not do both and still be deemed redeemed or on the path to! Your words are beautiful to the ears and St. Fancis would have had it no other way that in these times when technology rules the world that His spirit would emerge to beautify the CHURCH through truth, reverence and a humility that only He himself would seem to endure. May God be with you each and every day in your daily walk and comentaries to the world of that which is in need of such men to guide us through the storms of our lives always…

  2. Celibacy as well as marriage should be revered. I disagree with the thought that priests MUST be celibate. To choose to do so IS a wonderful sacrifice unto the the Lord. But I personally know 9 priests who have left the church and have chosen one of God’s other sacraments, marriage. These were wonderful spiritually leaders…now lost to us because of their choice to have a family. Our Catholic community has seen a decline in vocations and our priests are overburdened. There are married priests. They were married first and then became priests. What is the difference???? We, as Catholics, need to look at this alternative for the increase in vocations. It should be a choice. We can all serve God. 😉

    • Deacons can receive Holy Orders and Matrimony. Personally as someone thinking to become a priest, one is divided between earthly matters and heavenly matters when in a relationship. Priests are not overburdened though. Many are fine with not having a family, and they go through a process (before becoming priests) realizing that they may not have a family should they decide to become a priest. Personally, I agree that priests must be celibate so they can focus one hundred percent on the people that God has called them to shepherd. Ultimately, it is the pope’s decision, and we must follow him-the successor of St. Peter.

  3. Perhaps the priests that left to marry really weren’t the best of priests. They put their humanness first and God second. That is how our world is today. Everything else in front of God. Not a good example to the rest of us that we too can control our human frailties.

  4. We should follow Saint Paul advice to be Celibate
And a eunuch(unique) love of our LORD, but if we
Are a husband already we can become an Anglican for married men
    Are permitted to serve GOD
