Would you like to live forever? And would you really choose to live forever, if you could?

We’ve all thought about it at one time or another – the inescapability of mortality has been on collective our minds since the dawn of mankind. So preoccupied with avoiding death, most probably haven’t thought about what it really means to be mortal and what it would actually be like to never die.

Especially during these times, one way or another the talk of death has made its way into conversations with friends and family. Struggling with these challenging questions – the kind people of Faith have wrestled with throughout all history – has become the defining milieu of the COVID zeitgeist.

If you could have immortality, what would you be willing to give up?

Your free will? Your free thought?

How can you live, if you know you’re never going to really die?

The protagonists of I AM MORTAL struggle with these questions, too.

Not a faith-based film per se, I AM MORTAL’s main themes appeal especially to a Faith-based audience.

The film is a teen, young-adult sci-fi drama set 200 years in the future when the human race has achieved immortality through a genetic vaccine created by one man, The Pilot. All war, violence and crime has been eradicated, but so have certain emotions and personal choices The Pilot deemed archaic.

In this utopian society a small band of rebels questions if this immortal life is how humans were meant to live. They recruit a young man, Logos, who is only days away from receiving the “gift” of immortality and similarly questions the cost of their near-perfect world. But, The Pilot sends a spy, Akae, to infiltrate the group and capture Logos. Logos leads the rebels as they attempt to overthrow the status quo and reclaim their free will—including their right to die, embarking on a path that will lead LOGOS to die the first natural death in two millennia, leaving a revolution in his wake.
