On Saturday, the Director of the Holy See Press Office Matteo Bruni released a statement announcing the publishing of the third encyclical of Pope Francis’ papacy entitled Fratelli tutti, meaning ‘All Brothers.’
“In the afternoon of Saturday 3 October 2020 the Holy Father Francis will visit Assisi to sign the new Encyclical, “All Brothers”, on fraternity and social friendship.
The prefecture of the Pontifical Household states that at 3:00 p.m. the Holy Father will arrive at the Sacred Convent, where he will celebrate Holy Mass at the tomb of Saint Francis, and at the end he will sign the Encyclical.
Due to the health situation, it is the Holy Father’s wish that the visit should take place in a private form, without any participation of the faithful.
As soon as the celebration is over, the Holy Father will return to the Vatican.”
Bishop of Assisi Domenico Sorrentino said the town awaits the Pope’s visit with “emotion and gratitude.”
“While the world is suffering a pandemic that makes so many peoples lives difficult, and makes us feel for brothers in pain, we cannot but feel the need to become above all brothers in love. This gesture of Pope Francis gives us new courage and strength to ‘restart’ in the name of the fraternity that unites us all.”
The title of his third encyclical is said to be reminiscent of the theme of his papacy as a whole, fraternity. When he greeted the world on the evening of his election seven years ago, his first words to eager ears was “brothers.”
