Yesterday, Pope Francis held just his second general audience with pilgrims present since the coronavirus lockdown Italy instituted back in March.
Normally held in Saint Peter’s Square, he met with the Faithful after his address in the San Damaso Courtyard of the Apostolic Palace.
When he meets with with them, its customary for Pope Francis to bless religious items presented to him. When he blessed one presented by a couple yesterday, the crowd of hundreds – and the man’s soon-to-be wife – was shocked to find it contained an engagement ring for a surprise proposal in the Vatican in front of the pope!
