2113 Idolatry not only refers to false pagan worship. It remains a constant temptation to faith. Idolatry consists in divinizing what is not God. Man commits idolatry whenever he honors and reveres a creature in place of God, whether this be gods or demons (for example, satanism), power, pleasure, race, ancestors, the state, money, etc. Jesus says, “You cannot serve God and mammon.” Many martyrs died for not adoring “the Beast” refusing even to simulate such worship. Idolatry rejects the unique Lordship of God; it is therefore incompatible with communion with God.

  1. The catholic religion believes that the wafer used in communion services is the actual body of Jesus..as in the wafer is Jesus. People are worshipping that wafer. How is that not idolatry? Likewise, every time someone ingests the wafer, is that not crucifying the Son of God afresh if that wafer is actually viewed as literally being Jesus?

  2. Jesus is the Word of God, yes? When God speaks, things are brought into being, ie. “Let there be light.” and light was created. Therefore, when Jesus says in Scripture, “This is My Body…This is My Blood…” the bread and wine are made to be something other than bread and wine. They still remain bread and wine in their visual substance, but at their essance, they are now the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ. When Jesus said in the Bible that to have everlasting life people had to eat of His flesh and drink of His blood, many of His disciples left Him. He could have said, “Weeeell, what I meant was really more of a metaphore.” He could have clarified something that was different, but He didn’t. Jesus doesn’t lie. What He says, is Truth. Therefore, when Jesus said “This is My Body…This is My Blood.” He meant it. He didn’t mean, “This is a metaphore of My Body,” or “This is a metaphore of My Blood.” He didn’t mean, “This is meant to represent My Body.” Therefore, we are not worshipping a wafer. We are worshiping Jesus, who in Scripture, confirms Transubstantiation (the turning of the bread and wine into the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit) with His own words.

    • Cannibals, Satanists, demon-worshippers: the lot of you who believe in transubstantiation fall into the same category.
