How the Lord longs for us to ask for His help! But it’s important how we ask. We can’t ask half-heartedly. We have to ask with complete trust that He will take care of everything.

Some of us are hesitant to ask for help. Think about your daily interactions at work or with your family. Are you quick to ask for aid or do you prefer to handle challenges yourself? What prevents you from giving others the chance to come to your service? Could it be pride or false humility?

We have to reflect on this because the same may go with our approach to God. We have to humble ourselves in order to reap the graces He wants to shower upon us.

I am reminded of the Surrender Novena where Jesus speaks through Father Dolindo. Jesus says to us, “Close your eyes and say with all your soul, ‘Jesus, you take care of it.’ Do not be afraid, I will take care of things and you will bless my name by humbling yourself.”

We have to learn to lean on Him rather than allowing our pride to prevent us from asking for His assistance. Lent is the perfect time to learn to surrender all of our worries, concerns, and needs instead of trying to solve everything ourselves.

At Lent, we are reminded of all He endured for us as we journey towards The Passion. We disregard His tremendous gift of Himself when we deny Him the ability to help us. After all, He came to save us!

Together, let us commit to praying more fervently as our lives become one single act of surrender. If we learn to let go, we’ll be able to say with joy, “When I called, you answered me; you built up strength within me.” (PS 138:3).
