Earlier this month, four members of the Swiss Guard and then seven a week later tested positive for coronavirus following a meeting with Pope Francis.

Yesterday, two more tested positive as well. In an official statement, the Pontifical Swiss Guard announced that the most recent round of testing brought the total number of patients identified to thirteen.

“No guards were hospitalized. Not all guards necessarily show symptoms such as fever, joint pain, coughing, and loss of sense of smell.”

The statement added their condition would continue to be monitored by Vatican’s Health Department, and they would continue to follow new health and safety guidelines issued by the Vatican.

“We hope for a prompt recovery so that the guards can resume service in the best possible way, in health and safety.”
