Harvard was first established to educate clergymen with the motto of “For Christ and His Church.” Founded by pastor John Harvard, for 70 years the university was led by men of the Faith.
Now, Humanist Chaplain Greg Epstein will lead as Chief University Chaplain after being unanimously voted in by their community of nearly 40 chaplains who represent “many of the world’s religious, spiritual, and ethical traditions and who share a collective commitment to serving the spiritual needs of the students, faculty, and staff of Harvard University.”
Epstein says: “We don’t look to a god for answers,” despite a majority of Harvard’s students identifying as belonging to a religion. 17% of them happen to be Catholic, more than those that identify with atheism.
