Yesterday, an initial group of 25 people permanently housed and cared for by the Office of Papal Charities received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, with more poor & homeless to be vaccinated in the coming days.

“The people who have been given this possibility are those who receive shelter and assistance in various Church-run facilities close to the Vatican. They are men and women aged 60 and over, both Italian citizens and foreigners, many of whom struggle with serious health difficulties.”

Other Vatican employees and the Swiss Guard received the vaccination yesterday as well, nearly a week after the Vatican started administering vaccinations last Wednesday, with Pope’s Francis and Benedict XVI receiving their first dose the day after.

Those present yesterday thanked Pope Francis in unison, one saying they felt they had “extra security, we thank the pope for this gift.”
