A new study by the Pew Research Center surveyed 6,485 US adults of all religions about their Faith in God, why tragedy happens, and their beliefs in the afterlife.

Most of the suffering in the world comes from the actions of people, not God, according to 90% of Catholics, the highest amongst all religions.

The study also found that of Catholics, 90% believe in Heaven, but only 74% believe in Hell.

However, they found that 68% of Catholics say people who don’t believe in God can go to Heaven, twice as likely as Protestants at 34%.

Interestingly, Catholics were least likely to believe “my religion is the one true faith leading to eternal life in heaven,” while most Protestants said the opposite.

Just 1 in 6 Catholics believe their Faith is the One True Faith leading to Heaven.

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

“This is the sole Church of Christ, which in the Creed we profess to be one, holy, catholic and apostolic.” – CCC 811
