The Italian newspaper Domani reported that Vatican prosecutors ordered Vatican and Italian police to search two of Fabrizio Tirabassi’s properties in Rome and his birthtown of Celano, a lay official suspended last year in connection with ongoing financial crime investigations at the offices of the Vatican Secretariat of State.

The search initially focused on electronics and documents, but uncovered 200,000 Euros in an old shoebox and 600,000 Euros hidden elsewhere throughout the house, totaling some 950,000 US dollars.
