Earlier in January, both popes received doses of the Pfizer COVID vaccine.
Pope Francis has said receiving the vaccine is an “an ethical action, because you are gambling with your health, you are gambling with your life, but you are also gambling with the lives of others.”
“I believe that, ethically, everyone has to get the vaccine. I don’t understand why some say this could be a dangerous vaccine. If doctors present it to you as something that can be fine and has no special dangers, why not take it? Getting vaccinated is a simple yet profound way to care for one another, especially the most vulnerable. I pray to God that each one of us can do his or her small part.”
The Vatican confirmed they were administered booster shots in a statement to journalists today.
“In the second half of October the Directorate of Health and Hygiene of Vatican City began to administer the third dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, giving priority to people over 60 and vulnerable people.”
A Vatican official said it was “inferable” the two popes were among those given a 3rd dose.
Wishing Pope Francis & Benedict XVI good health. God bless.
