Will you answer Pope Francis’ call? This Saturday, May 30th, Pope Francis is going to lead a rosary from the Lourdes Grotto in the Vatican Gardens and is asking you to join him.
The initiative was promoted by the The Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization under the theme of: “Devoted and with one accord to prayer, together with Mary.” (Acts 1:14)
A way to unite Marian shrines on the eve of Pentecost at a time when most are closed because of the coronavirus pandemic, the prayer of Pope Francis will be in unison with many shrines around the globe: the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., Our Lady of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Fatima, Our Lady of Lourdes, San Giovanni Rotondo, and Our Lady of Pompei, will also hold a livestream and be featured on the Vatican’s stream. Many other shrines will simply join prayer with the Holy Father.
Their collective intention? The help and solace of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the midst of a global pandemic.
“The Holy Father will place the many cares and sorrows of humanity, further aggravated by the spread of Covid-19, at the feet of Mary. The appointment for the end of the Marian month is a further sign of closeness and comfort for those who, in various ways, have been affected by the coronavirus, in the certainty that the Heavenly Mother does not neglect our requests for protection.”
President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization Archbishop Rino Fisichella said about the initiative:
“In light of the emergency situation caused by the Coronavirus pandemic that has caused the stoppage of the normal activity of all Shrines and the interruption of all pilgrimages, Pope Francis wishes to express a gesture of closeness to each of you with the recitation of the Holy Rosary.”
