Pope Francis shared his monthly prayer intention video for December, urging the Faithful to pray for a life of prayer.
Pope Francis’ Worldwide Prayer Network of the Apostleship of Prayer developed “The Pope Video” initiative in 2016 as a way to spread the Holy Father’s monthly prayer intentions on the challenges humanity faces in a video based format.
For the month of December, Pope Francis shared his prayer intention “our personal relationship with Jesus Christ be nourished by the Word of God and a life of prayer.”
Pope Francis has accompanied his video with an official prayer so you can pray for his monthly intention:
while we wait for your birth,
we ask you for the grace to care for others in our lives
and the space and time for prayer.
Let prayer be the environment where everything begins and everything ends.
In prayer we receive your inspiration
that leads us to love and serve our brothers and sisters.
In prayer we bring all the events to you
to thank you and learn from them.
We ask you for the grace of fidelity
and the joy of meeting you in our hearts.
Accompanied with the Holy Father’s intention are his proposals for the month of December:
- Seek to live this Advent and Christmas more intensely, in personal prayer, in your family and in your community, better preparing for moments of prayer and enriching them with creativity and depth.
- Make a prayerful examination of the past year, what has ended, all the most difficult moments, and the most symbolic moments, and let the Lord speak in your heart to find meaning in everything you have experienced.
- Learn and practice different pathways of prayer, in particular those promoted by the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network, such as the Click To Pray platform, and its sections Pray+ and The Way of the Heart.

The heart of the Church’s mission is prayer.
Prayer is the key for us to be able to enter into dialogue with the Father.
Every time we read a short passage from the Gospel we hear Jesus speaking to us.
We have a conversation with Jesus.
We listen to Jesus and we reply.
And this is prayer.
By praying, we change reality.
And we change our hearts.
Our heart changes when we pray.
We can do many things, but without prayer, it does not work.
We pray that our personal relationship with Jesus Christ be nourished by the Word of God and a life of prayer.
In silence, everyone, each one in heartfelt prayer.
