Pope Francis shared his monthly prayer intention video for October, urging the Faithful to pray to be missionary disciples.
Pope Francis’ Worldwide Prayer Network of the Apostleship of Prayer developed “The Pope Video” initiative in 2016 as a way to spread the Holy Father’s monthly prayer intentions on the challenges humanity faces in a video based format.
For the month of October, Pope Francis shared his prayer intention that we “pray that every baptized person may be engaged in evangelization, available to the mission, by being witnesses of a life that has the flavor of the Gospel.”
Pope Francis has accompanied his video with an official prayer to help you pray for his monthly intention:
Lord Jesus Christ, who calls us to be apostles of your mission,
We come today to offer you our lives, what we are and what we have.
We want to work with you in your mission of compassion,
be faithful to the missionary vocation received in baptism,
allowing ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit.
Help us to be living witnesses of your Gospel,
celebrating the life that we receive in You;
going out of ourselves to encounter our brothers and sisters.
Receive our will to be open to serve with others for your Father’s Kingdom.
Accompanied with the Holy Father’s intention are his “Attitudes” for the month of October:
Testimony of Life
“Your heart knows that it is not the same without Him; this thing that you have discovered, that helps you to live and that gives you hope, that is whay you need to communicate to others” (Pope Francis). I will make sure that my actions and words make present the Lord’s love.
Discover one’s own vocation and call
“The new evangelization should include a new proactiveness of each baptized person” (Pope Francis). What Parish or community services can I help out with now?
Allowing ourselves to be guided by the Holy Spirit
“The presence of the Spirit grants Christians a certain innate nature with divine truths and a knowledge that allows them to understand them intuitively” (Pope Francis). I will bring to prayer my fears and I will be available to listen to the Lord’s voice before acting and deciding.
Available for Christ’s mission
“Every Christian is a missionary in the way that each one has encountered the love of God through Christ Jesus; we don’t just say that we are “disciples” or “missionaries,” but rather we are “missionary disciples” (Pope Francis). Who do needs my help at this time?
Missionaries in Everyday Life
“To be a disciple is to have the permanent mindset to bring the love of Jesus to others, and that spontanteously produces itself in any location: in the street, in public, at work, on everyone’s journey” (Pope Francis). I will be open to serving in situations that I encounter in everyday life.

Jesus asks us all, and you as well, to be missionary disciples. Are you ready?
It’s enough to be available to answer His call and to live united to the Lord in the most common daily things —work, meeting other people, our daily duties, the chance events of each day— allowing ourselves to be guided always by the Holy Spirit.
If Christ moves you, if you do things because Christ is guiding you, others will notice it easily.
And your testimony of life will inspire admiration, and admiration inspires others to ask themselves, “How is it possible for this person to be this way?,” “What is the source of the love with which this person treats everyone —the kindness and good humor?”
Let us remember that the mission is not proselytism; the mission is based on an encounter between people, on the testimony of men and women who say, “I know Jesus, and I’d like you to know Him too.”
Brothers and sisters, let us pray that every baptized person may be engaged in evangelization, available to the mission, by being witnesses of a life that has the flavour of the Gospel.
