The “King” singing for the Queen.
On May 15, 1971, Elvis Presley recorded “The Miracle of the Rosary” for inclusion on his album “Elvis Now!”. Though he was a man faith, he was raised in the evangelical Assemblies of God denomination, so singing a quintessentially Catholic song makes little sense.
According to Dominicana Journal:
“It wasn’t Elvis who actually wrote “Miracle of The Rosary,” but an early pioneer of rockabilly music and the man who first taught Elvis to play guitar at the age of 13. The writer’s name was Lee Denson. Denson’s father, Rev. James Denson, ran the Poplar Street Mission, a Pentecostal church that Elvis and his mother and father attended in Memphis after moving there in 1948. It was here that the two families became friends. Denson went on to have a music career with a few minor hits, but obviously never to the same success as Elvis. It was in 1960, however, that Denson penned an English version of the “Ave Maria.” With lack of interest from his publishers, because it was of a religious nature, Denson was living in L.A. at the time and took it to Elvis, knowing his love of Gospel music. Elvis, who was in town filming a movie, received Denson warmly at his Bel-Air home where he performed it for him. A little later on, one of Elvis’ entourage reached out to Denson about the publishing, but nothing ever came of that at the time. Then over a decade later, Denson got a call from one of his old bandmates in Memphis, telling him to sit down as he broke the news that Elvis had recorded a version of it.”
“The Miracle of the Rosary” by Elvis Presley lyrics:
Oh Blessed Mother we pray to Thee
Thanks for the miracle of Your Rosary
Only You can hold back Your Holy Son’s hand
Long enough for the whole world to understand
Hail Mary full of grace
The Lord is with Thee
Blessed are thou among women
And blessed is the fruit of Thy womb, Jesus
Oh Holy Mary dear Mother of God
Please pray for us sinners
Now and at the hour of our death
And give thanks once again
For the miracle of Your Rosary
Thank you for this posting. I never knew that Elvis had sung The Miracle of The Rosary. Consequently, I have never heard this beautiful rendition. Thanks again!
Beautiful just beautiful. Its nice to see someone so famous would sing a song for her.
thank you l had never heard this
This is so beautiful!
Say after the Hail Holy Queen
V – Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God
R – That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
I thought this was just beautiful! But I think that the pictures should have been about our Blessed Mother Mary, not Elvis! Still, I loved this song!
Somehow the photos of Elvis and this song just don’t go together. I agree with the other poster that the pictures should have been of the BVM not of Elvis! Song was beautiful however.
I found the song with pictures of mary, just searched The miracle of the Rosary in videos.
Beautiful! Ya, I also never heard that he sing this song praising our Mother Mary and about rosary!
LOve it!
I was so surprised and delighted to hear Elvis singing this beautiful song to Our Lady, and with such feeling. I too love it.
I, too, have never heard it sung that way…it was very moving.
As for the pictures, they should have been of Our Blessed Mother.
I only heard this song last night, came across it by chance, sung with such passion, magnificent’
Heavens . . . were Elvis (and his mother) Catholic? I grew up as a protestant listening to Hymns and Spritual songs performed by Elvis, a favorite of my father. I always assumed he was . . .well . . .evangelical. (?)
Elvis was raised as an Assembly of God member.
You can be protestant, or evangelical and pray the rosary.
God loves Mary and he chose her to be the Mother of his only son. Why shouldn’t we love her? It started by the Jews doing a not for every psalm= 150 psalms. Then monks made a not for 150 Our fathers. This is the history of the rosary. Plus the rosary is meditating in all the life of Jesus. Check out the Joyful, and Sorowful.
His mother’s family was Catholic, but his father’s was not. He would usually not attend Catholic Church, but the nearest neighboring church other than Catholic. Where his mother would sing, and later he did too. He always had a great honor of the Blessed Mother.
this is just too magnifique,
AWESOME! It’s not popularly known to many but it’s indeed MAGNIFICENT!
I love it! Nothing is as beautiful or as powerful or as deep as the Rosary. Thanks Elvis!
i love it !
I never knew that Elvis was so religious and loved to sing Gospels songs
until I saw the documentary “He Touched Me” I myself had a remarkable
experience with Elviis that convinced me that he was with the Lord.
I loved hearing this song because I know he sang from his heart.
Mae #1 Elvis fan
This is a wonderful song, it is my first time to hear it. thank you so much. it touched my heart. God bless you all.
This is so beautiful. Only Elvis could sing it this way. If for no other reason but this, I would believe that Blessed Mother pulled him into heaven.
It’s just so wonderful to hear our late great Elvis perform this very beautiful dedication to the Blessed Mother. God bless you, Elvis, and may you rest in our Mother’s loving care with the Lord and all the angels and saints in heaven, forever. Amen.
I never knew about Elvis singing this wonderful song about Our Blessed Mother and the Rosary, the Hail Mary………How beautiful! Honoring her in this way, I know she was with him at the hour of his death. May he rest in peace.
Hi:
I would like to buy a the CD of Elivs singing the Rosary. How do I go about
getting the CD or video as played on your website.
Thanks,
Mae
so happy elvis sang to our lady. would rather have pictures of our lady tho. very beautiful
I have always loved the way Elvis sang the spiritual songs
He sang them with deep emotion. My dad wanted Elvis record of How Great Thou Are played at his funeral
No one sings How Great Thou Art like Elvis! That was played at my fathers, brothers, and my husbands funeral, because they all loved it so much, especially when Elvis sang it. I can’t make it through the song without crying.?
Elvis loved his mother as he loved and respected Jesus’s mother. Both who sons have made a global impact on to day’s world.
First time I ever heard this song. I love all of Elvis Presley’s gospel songs but this song to Our Lady was so incredible. Thank you for putting in on Facebook.
Praise God! When asked if I prefer Beatles or Stones, I say Elvis. A devout fan of Christ Crucified wins over demonic perversion any day. Hopefully this was a nod to his former colleague and friend Dolores (Hicks) Hart, who took her formal final vows as a cloistered nun in 1970. The Prioress for the Abbey in Connecticut listened to the ear of her heart by discerning her own vocation as a bride of Christ. God bless her fidelity to her Faith, and I pray that Elvis, through her prayers, met the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Holy Mother, at the moment of his too early death. May Jesse Lee Denson and his wife be reunited with Elvis to join the Choirs of Holy Angels living in God’s glory forever. May the divine assistance remain always with us and may the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace and may perpetual light shine upon them. Amen.
Ecce Crucem Domini!
Fugite partes adversae!
Vicit Leo de tribu Juda,
Radix David! Alleluia!
Saint Anthony pray for us.
