In a heartwarming incident at World Youth Day in Fátima, Portugal, 16-year-old Jimena from Madrid reported a miraculous recovery of her sight. The young girl, who had been living with a 95% vision loss due to severe myopia for over two years, was a part of a pilgrim group from Opus Dei. “I opened my eyes, and I could see perfectly,” she recounted of her experience post Communion, during which the Pope was also present, praying at the Fátima shrine.
On the fateful day, August 5th, coinciding with the feast day of Our Lady of the Snows, Jimena felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude and emotion. “When I opened my eyes, I saw the altar, the tabernacle, my friends were there and I could see them perfectly,” she mentioned.
Cardinal Juan José Omella, the president of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference, referred to Jimena’s experience as a “grace from God.” He interacted with the teen on a video call, and she detailed her experience to him. He later said, “She didn’t see, and now she sees. Afterward, the doctors can speak to the rest, but she’s going back home able to see. Blessed be God.”
News of Jimena’s experience has inspired many, offering hope and faith to believers around the world. As investigations continue, many wait to hear if the Church will officially recognize this event as a miracle.
