Are you ready to inspire your kids in a life-changing way?
In this episode of The Catholic Gentleman, John Heinen and Devin Schadt share transformative affirmations they’ve discovered through years of parenthood. These three powerful truths help parents reflect God’s love, nurture their children’s wholeness, and equip them for confident, fulfilling lives!
1. Affirm Your Child’s God-Given Beauty
It’s so important to recognize your child’s beauty inside and out! When mom and dad receive their dignity from Christ, they can pass that unshakable confidence onto their sons and daughters. Celebrating the whole person—mind, body & soul—helps kids learn their intrinsic worth beyond appearances. Devin shares just how impactful your affirmation can be: “My daughter says, ‘I’m so thankful that my father told me that, that he protected me, because I began to understand my own worth and my own value.’”
2. Intentionally Spend Meaningful Time Together
Making time for your kids isn’t just good parenting, it’s life-giving! John says “you actually have to want to spend time with your children. Me being there resonates within.” Whether it’s cheering at gymnastics or simply being present without distractions, choosing to enter your child’s world forges family bonds, creating lasting spiritual and emotional connections.
3. Value Your Child’s Thoughts and Emotions
Children deeply need to know that their feelings matter. Devin explains that “kids want conversation, not condemnation.” Listen first and affirm often, before ever offering critique. He advises parents to “notice things about them. Comment on things about them. Before you say one thing negative, say 10 things positive that are encouraging and hopeful.” This helps foster an environment of openness where trust flourishes and young hearts grow receptive to God’s love.
The gentlemen promise that if you embrace these truths, you’ll watch your home blaze with holy joy!
