Pope Francis has expressed his strong desire to visit China, particularly to pray at the Sheshan Basilica, a Marian shrine near Shanghai.

In a recent interview with Jesuit Father Pedro Chia, the Pope said Chinese Catholics “have gone through so much and remained faithful.”

During the interview, Pope Francis shared his hope to meet with China’s bishops and the Catholic community there. He described the Chinese as “a faithful people” and acknowledged their resilience through challenging times.

The Pope also addressed the criticism he faces in his papacy, saying, “critics are always helpful… because they make one reflect on one’s actions.” He highlighted the importance of collaboration and in managing his responsibilities, saying he has to “know how to delegate.”

Reflecting on his own experiences, the Pope noted that crises are inevitable, but one must “rise above” and rely on companionship for support.

He also humorously suggested that young men considering joining the Jesuits should “let him become a Dominican” before encouraging them to seek discernment.
