“This Divine Name is in truth a mine of riches; it is the fount of the highest holiness and the secret of the greatest happiness that a man can hope to enjoy on this earth. It is so powerful, so certain, that it never fails to produce in our souls the most wonderful results. It consoles the saddest heart and makes the weakest sinner strong. It obtains for us all kinds of favors and graces, spiritual and temporal.” – Fr. Paul O’Sullivan, O.P.
As Fr. Paul so eloquently expressed, the name of Jesus is incredibly powerful. Because we say it so frequently, we often take for granted all the riches of the beautiful name of Jesus.
How can you honor the name of Jesus, not only during the month of January that is dedicated to this devotion, but every day? Fr. Paul offers three suggestions in his ebook The Wonders Of The Holy Name.
3 Ways Catholics Can Honor The Name Of Jesus Every Day
- Bow your head reverently each time you say or hear the name of Jesus.
- Make it a habit to say the name of Jesus devoutly and frequently, hundreds and hundreds of times every day.
- Use prayer cards with the name of Jesus on them to help you remember to pray. Carry the cards with you in your wallet or purse, put them under your pillows at night, and post them on the doors of the rooms in your home.
Fr. Paul reminds us that, “Each time we say, ‘Jesus,’ we give God infinite joy and glory, for we offer Him all the infinite merits of the Passion and Death of Jesus Christ.” In doing so, we “receive great graces for ourselves” and “we help the souls in Purgatory.”
Wondering how you can get a copy of Fr. Paul’s ebook The Wonders Of The Holy Name? Fr. Paul goes into great detail in this ebook, offering incredible insights into this “secret of holiness and happiness” as well as stories about the many saints who showed reverence to the name of Jesus.

My copy of this booklet was printed by Tan Publishers in 1993 and I still have/use it. I also attended Toronto’s Holy Name Parish at Pape/Danforth (Greek neighbourhood) from 1986-1993 with a wonderful parish priest, Father Tom McKillop. My personal relationship with Christ Jesus reached its pinnacle, one Friday night in Lent, during the final few Stations of the Cross, on my knees weeping silently in this beautiful massive but nearly empty church, lit dimly only by altar candles. It is a moment in my life I will never forget, and it was no coincidence that Holy Name was the place and the prayer. The grace that washed over me that night has stayed with me over 30yrs.
