Indonesia has unveiled the world’s tallest statue of Jesus Christ, standing at 200 feet atop Sibeabea Hill in North Sumatra province.

The monumental figure overlooks Toba Lake and is over 60 feet taller than Christ the Redeemer in Brazil.

Named “Jesus Christ the Savior,” the statue was inaugurated on September 19 by Bishop Antonius Subianto Bunjamin, president of the Indonesian Bishops’ Conference.

Bishop Bunjamin said that “this is a hill blessed by God,” expressing hope that the site will “strengthen the faith of people” in the region, reported UCA News.

A miniature of the statue was also blessed by Pope Francis during his visit to Indonesia on September 6.

The Pope signed a prayer inscribed on a plate beneath the statue: “What is admired about Jesus the Savior is his infinite love.”

North Sumatra is home to over 1.1 million Catholics out of the countries total population of 15 million.
