Have you ever wondered why Easter falls on a different date every year?

Catholics and Orthodox don’t celebrate Easter on the same date every year, either.

However, Pope Francis recently expressed optimism that Easter 2025 will unify Christian celebrations worldwide during a meeting with the “Pasqua Together 2025” group at the Vatican. The group aims to align the Gregorian and Julian calendars next year, allowing Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox Christians to observe Easter together on the same day.

At the meeting, Pope Francis highlighted the historical context, noting the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, which first addressed the Easter date.

During his address, the Pope said “Easter belongs to Christ!” and encouraged their perseverance in finding a common agreement. He urged the group to “reflect, share and plan together” to foster unity among Christians.

Pope Francis also recalled that “Easter occurred because God so loved the world that He gave His only Son.” He concluded by praying, saying, “Let us also turn, today, to the Prince of Peace in order to pray that He give us His peace.”

The “Pasqua Together 2025” initiative hopes for a common celebration of Easter in 2025 as a step towards greater Christian unity ahead of the 2000-year anniversary of his Crucifixion, Resurrection and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost:
