At Mass dedicated to the Sunday of the Word of God, Pope Francis offered a compelling homily, urging believers to immerse themselves in the transformative power of Scripture, amidst the relentless noise of today’s digital world.

The Pope emphasized the need to move beyond the “barrage” of social media and engage deeply with the Bible, a source of healing and inspiration.

During the Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Francis installed new lay ministers and catechists, reinforcing the Church’s commitment to spreading God’s word. He stressed the significance of God’s word in guiding and reshaping lives, citing examples of saints whose encounters with scripture led to profound life changes.

Pope Francis also expressed concern over the increasing detachment from the Bible in daily life.

“Amid so many books, magazines, televisions, and telephones, where is the Bible?” he questioned, urging the faithful to keep the Gospel within easy reach, whether in physical form or digitally on their phones.

The Pope’s message centered on the transformative nature of God’s word. He explained “Christ’s word not only liberates us from the burdens we bear, past and present; it also makes us mature in truth and in charity.” He called for a renewed focus on the Gospel, emphasizing its role as a beacon of hope and a reminder of our identity as God’s beloved children.

Pope Francis concluded by challenging believers to reflect on their engagement with the Gospel, urging them to explore its depths and allow it to renew their lives. He reminded everyone that the Gospel is not just a text but a pathway to experiencing the beauty and love that God offers to each individual.

Pray with Pope Francis!
