The Vatican has introduced Luce, a new mascot for the upcoming Jubilee Year 2025.
Unveiled by Archbishop Rino Fisichella on October 28, Luce is designed to engage younger generations and reflect themes of hope and pilgrimage.
Luce, whose name means “light” in Italian, is depicted as a Catholic pilgrim. She wears a yellow raincoat symbolizing the Vatican flag and protection through life’s storms. Her mud-stained boots represent the long and challenging journey of faith.
Designed by Simone Legno, founder of the pop culture brand tokidoki, Luce features shining eyes shaped like scallop shells, a traditional symbol of pilgrimage. She carries a pilgrim’s staff and wears a missionary cross, embodying the theme “Pilgrims of Hope.”
The mascot will debut at the Lucca Comics and Games convention, marking the first time the Vatican officially participates in such an event. Luce will also represent the Holy See at Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan.
This initiative reflects a Vatican effort to connect with youth through popular culture and inspire them on their spiritual journey.
