During his general audience on October 16, 2024, Pope Francis called on all Christians to have “reconciled differences” and promote unity among various denominations.

Speaking to pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square, the Pope expressed hope for “full mutual acceptance” between Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestants.

Reflecting on the Nicene Creed, he explained that the Latin term “Filioque” had been a source of division but suggested that recent dialogues have “lost the acrimony of the past.”

“I like to say this: ‘reconciled differences,'” Pope Francis said. “Among Christians, there are many differences. The important thing is that these differences are reconciled in the love of walking together.”

He emphasized that the Holy Spirit is “life-giving,” which can unite Christians despite doctrinal disagreements.

Concluding his address, Pope Francis encouraged everyone to be inspired by the Holy Spirit and “not forget to thank Him, who with His death, obtained this inestimable gift for us!”
