Pope Francis remains in critical condition but has shown slight improvement, according to a Vatican statement released this Monday evening.
Doctors confirmed that there have been no further respiratory crises following a serious episode on Saturday that required him to receive high-flow oxygen therapy. Some laboratory results have improved. He has mild kidney insufficiency which is not currently a cause for concern.
The 88-year-old pontiff, who has been hospitalized at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital since February 14, now continues to receive breathing treatments. Pope Francis was able to receive the Eucharist on Monday morning and work in the afternoon. Later in the evening, he placed a call to the parish in Gaza to express his support and solidarity.
Faithful around the world have continued to pray for Pope Francis’ recovery. In Rome, a nightly Rosary prayer led by members of the College of Cardinals began Monday in St. Peter’s Square, with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin leading the first gathering.
At the Gemelli Hospital, the hospital chaplain has organized daily Eucharistic adoration, followed by Mass in the St. John Paul II Chapel there. Meanwhile, churches and dioceses worldwide have held special Masses and prayer gatherings for the Pope’s health.
The Vatican said that Pope Francis remains grateful for the widespread prayers and support. His medical team continues to monitor his condition closely, with further updates expected in the coming days.
Please pray for the health of Pope Francis and his intentions! 🙏
