Pope Francis’ former popemobile is being made into a mobile health clinic to aid children in Gaza.
The initiative, led by Caritas Jerusalem and Caritas Sweden, aims to bring medical care to young children in Gaza who have been displaced or injured in the ongoing conflict. Nearly one million children have been uprooted by the war, and much of Gaza’s primary healthcare infrastructure is no longer functioning.
The vehicle, originally used by Francis during his 2014 pilgrimage to Bethlehem, is currently being outfitted with essential medical equipment and supplies. It will also be reinforced with blast resistant glass.
Once clearance is granted, a doctor, nurse and driver from Caritas Jerusalem will operate the mobile clinic across the Gaza Strip.
“We will reach children who have no access to health care, who are injured and malnourished,” said Peter Brune, Secretary‑General of Caritas Sweden.
