Dr. Sergio Alfieri, the surgeon responsible for Pope Francis’ abdominal surgeries in July 2021 and June 2023, recently gave an update on the Pontiff’s health, confirming there are no major concerns and “he is doing well consistent with his age.”

Alfieri, who also directs the department of surgery at Policlinico Gemelli in Rome, reassured the faithful, saying “I don’t see any causes for concern.” Although he doesn’t see Pope Francis every day, his determination comes from his professional evaluations following the Pope’s surgeries and regular check-ups.

Despite undergoing significant medical procedures, Pope Francis, nearing 88, maintains a level of mental sharpness that Alfieri admires, saying, “the Holy Father has the head of a 60-year-old.”

Alfieri’s comments comes amid recent moments of the Pope managing his rigorous duties with some adjustments, like occasionally having aides deliver speeches on his behalf.

Acknowledging the natural effects of aging, Alfieri said “he has, however, as is normal, the aches and pains of an 87-year-old.”

Pray for the health of Pope Francis!
