In an intimate meeting at the Pope’s private residence, Casa Santa Marta, former US President Bill Clinton and Pope Francis convened to deliberate on global peace initiatives.

The huddle took place on Wednesday, July 5, in the wake of Clinton’s European tour, which included a visit to Albania where he was lauded for his support during the Kosovo War.

Clinton’s delegation was an assembly of notable American figures, featuring Alex Soros, new chairman of the Open Society Foundations and son of philanthropic mogul, George Soros.

While Clinton’s philanthropic ventures have earned him accolades abroad, Soros aims to have a more significant impact on domestic US politics, with a focus on voting and abortion rights.

The two leaders exchanged meaningful gifts. Clinton received a statuette of a woman cradling a dove, symbolic of the commitment to peace. In return, he presented Pope Francis with a custom porcelain tray featuring the US presidential seal.
