Pope Francis remains in stable condition at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital following treatment for a polymicrobial respiratory infection, the Vatican confirmed. The 88-year-old pontiff has no fever and is continuing with new therapy based on recent test results.
The Vatican canceled all public engagements for the week, including the General Audience on February 19 and the Jubilee of Deacons Mass on February 24. Despite being bedridden, he has engaged in reading and limited work.
Pope Francis has continued his daily calls to Gaza’s Catholic parish while hospitalized. He has also expressed gratitude for the supportive messages from the faithful around the globe and fellow hospital patients.
This marks his fourth hospitalization since 2013, including previous stays for a colon operation, bronchitis and hernia surgery. His history of respiratory illness dates back to lung surgery in his youth.
While his condition remains stable, the Vatican is expected to provide further updates on his recovery in the coming days. No discharge date is set as of yet.
Please pray for the health of Pope Francis and his intentions!
🙏
