In a recent video message, Pope Francis urged young people to embrace creativity and stay active, warning that inactivity leads to a loss of vitality.

“A young person who does not create movement, who remains still, is an old person already dead,” the Pope said.

Addressing the youth of the Archdiocese of Madrid during the Madrid Live Meeting 2024, he encouraged them to “hold on to your roots, but with creativity.” He emphasized the importance of engaging with their heritage while innovating for the future.

Pope Francis also stressed the value of intergenerational dialogue. “Please, talk to the elderly, they are the wisdom of a people,” he advised. “Listen to them. And let them listen to you.”

He cautioned that without creativity, young people become “dead inside.” Reflecting on the necessity of staying connected, he explained, “a tree that cuts its roots has no sap.”

Concluding his message, the Pope urged the youth not to lose their joy and sense of humor.

“May the Lord fill you with joy,” he said, offering his blessing and asking for their prayers.
