The Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF) has given its approval to the devotion to Our Lady of Montichiari, Rose Mystica.

The DDF said that the messages disseminated by Pierina Gilli do not contradict the teachings of the Church on faith and morals. The letter, signed by the Prefect of the DDF, Victor Manuel Fernandez, and approved by the Pope, said that Gilli’s writings reflect humility and trust in Mary’s maternal action. “Pierina’s writings express humble and complete trust in the maternal action of Mary.”

The approval follows the new norms for discerning alleged supernatural phenomena issued on May 17, which prioritize evaluating the doctrinal and pastoral outcomes of the phenomenon.

The DDF highlighted the positive aspects of Gilli’s messages, including expressions of Mary’s beauty and goodness, and her direction towards Jesus Christ: “She who with so much love had manifested herself for our good, who wanted us to be better, to make us one with her Divine Son Jesus!”

The apparitions of Mary “Mystical Rose” and “Mother of the Church” are associated with Fontanelle, located in the province of Brescia, northern Italy. The site, which began as a spring indicated by Mary in 1966, now features a sanctuary and chapels for Eucharistic celebrations.

Did you know roses have long been connected with Mary? The red rose, symbolic of love – the white rose, symbolic of purity.

As early as the fifth century, Mary was referred to as a “rose among thorns” or the “queen of flowers,” the rose representing Mary as Queen of Heaven.
