“Today, politics does not have a good reputation. Corruption, scandals, and disconnection from the daily life of people are prevalent. But can we advance towards universal fraternity without good politics?
No, as Paul VI said, politics is one of the highest forms of charity because it seeks the common good. I am talking about politics with a capital P, not petty politics. I am talking about the politics that listens to reality, that is at the service of the poor, not the one that is enclosed in large buildings with long corridors. I am talking about the politics that cares about the unemployed and knows very well how sad a Sunday can be when Monday is just another day without being able to go to work.
If we see it this way, politics is much nobler than it appears. Let us thank the many politicians who perform their tasks with a will to serve, not to gain power, for all their efforts for the common good.
Let us pray that political leaders are at the service of their people, working for integral human development, working for the common good, attending to those who have lost their jobs, and prioritizing the poorest.”
