How much do you know about the power of sacramentals?

On this episode of The Catholic Gentleman, John Heinen and Everything Catholic director Jordan Watwood discuss five important sacramentals Catholics need to combat evil in everyday life and why they are so important for spiritual battle!

1. The Brown Scapular
The Brown Scapular is a tangible devotion to Our Lady and a daily commitment to live a holy life. Wearing it is a silent yet profound prayer seeking the maternal protection of Mary against spiritual attacks. “You gotta be wearing the scapular to benefit from those prayers,” says John.

2. Holy Water
Holy Water is powerful for purifying the soul, protecting against evil, and reminding us of our baptismal promises. Its use in the home can sanctify daily life, bringing the sacred into our most familiar spaces! Jordan says that “as you leave the house to go somewhere, it’s a great opportunity to bless yourself” with holy water.

3. Blessed candles
Blessed candles carry the light of Christ into our homes, symbolizing His presence and grace. Lighting these candles can even serve as a meditative practice to bring us closer to God! “It consumes the wax, sacrifices itself just as Christ did,” explains John.

4. Spiritual images or statues
Spiritual images and statues serve as visual reminders of our faith. They inspire us to live virtuously like the saints and keep our thoughts toward Heavenly things. “Having those visual reminders is really important… it’s kind of like that first and last thing that you see,” says Jordan.

5. Rosary
The Rosary is a powerful weapon against evil, a meditation on the life of Christ, and a pathway to grace. It strengthens our resolve to live a holy life and draws us closer to Mary and Jesus. “The rosary gradually gives us a perfect knowledge of Jesus Christ. It purifies our souls, washing away sin,” says John.

The gentlemen encourage listeners to embrace these sacramentals as your spiritual armor in the daily battle for holiness!
