Solomon 7:7-14
Ephesians 4:7,11-15
Psalms 40:3-4,10-11,17
Mark 16:15-20

Solomon 7:7-14
(7) For this cause I prayed, and understanding was given me: I called upon God, and there came to me a spirit of wisdom. (8) I preferred her before sceptres and thrones, And riches I esteemed nothing in comparison of her. (9) Neither did I liken to her any priceless gem, Because all the gold of the earth in her presence is a little sand, And silver will be accounted as clay before her. (10) Above health and comeliness I loved her, And I chose to have her rather than light, Because her bright shining is never laid to sleep. (11) But with her there came to me all good things together, And in her hands innumerable riches: (12) And I rejoiced over them all because wisdom leads them; Though I knew not that she was the mother of them. (13) As I learned without guile, I impart without grudging; I do not hide her riches. (14) For she is to men a treasure that fails not, And those who use it obtain friendship with God, Commended to him by the gifts which they through discipline present to him.

Ephesians 4:7,11-15
(7) But to each one of us was the grace given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. (11) He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds and teachers; (12) for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ; (13) until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; (14) that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error; (15) but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, Christ;

Psalms 40:3-4,10-11,17
(3) He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God. Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in Yahweh. (4) Blessed is the man who makes Yahweh his trust, and doesn’t respect the proud, nor such as turn away to lies. (10) I have not hidden your righteousness within my heart. I have declared your faithfulness and your salvation. I have not concealed your loving kindness and your truth from the great assembly. (11) Don’t withhold your tender mercies from me, Yahweh. Let your loving kindness and your truth continually preserve me. (17) But I am poor and needy. May the Lord think about me. You are my help and my deliverer. Don’t delay, my God.

Mark 16:15-20
(15) He said to them, “Go into all the world, and preach the Good News to the whole creation. (16) He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who disbelieves will be condemned. (17) These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages; (18) they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (19) So then the Lord, after he had spoken to them, was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. (20) They went out, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word by the signs that followed. Amen.

Watch What Happens When a Priest Tries the Random Bible Verse Challenge!

0

What happens when you let chance be your guide to the Bible?

That’s the intriguing premise of a riveting episode of The Catholic Talk Show, where they embark on a captivating exploration of Scripture with a twist: the Random Bible Verse Challenge!

Ryan Scheel, Ryan DellaCrosse and Father Rich Pagano bring their unique insights and devout Catholic perspectives into an engaging discussion of randomly selected Bible verses.

Scheel humorously terms the exercise as playing “Bible roulette,” setting the tone for an entertaining yet profound exploration of the Scripture. Their collective journey into the depths of these passages is as enlightening as it is heartening!

Father Rich’s first random selection led them to the Old Testament, specifically to the reign of King Uzziah. Scheel offered a thoughtful reflection on the prosperous yet prideful king, observing, “His pride led to that downfall by trying to steal the role of the priest.”

When Dellacrosse’s finger landed on a passage from the Book of Mark, they explored themes of darkness, authority and deliverance. Reflecting on the text, Father Rich noted, “The calm demeanor of Jesus in the presence of Legion is just you know the confidence and the authority that he has.”

In a touching moment, Father Rich connected Matthew 10:42 to his personal experiences in India, showcasing how even the smallest acts of kindness can make a significant impact. He shared, “By the time I finished, I just felt so loved and offered a hospitality that was just so sacred and rooted in their culture and rooted in their religious practice.”

The guy’s experience culminated in a powerful discussion of a verse from Isaiah, emphasizing the crucial importance of divine trust over self-reliance.

“Where am I relying on my own strength, my own help for myself and not relying on the Lord because if you do rely on the Lord, great, greater, greater than great things happen.”

Are you ready to take on the Random Bible Verse Challenge? Remember Father Rich’s words!

“God’s word is alive in our community and it does bring us together.”

Let Scripture become a living, breathing part of your life, speaking to you directly and profoundly, one verse at a time!

Is Anxiety a Hidden Path to Spirituality? Bridging the Gap Between Mental Struggles and Holiness

0

Can anxiety lead us to God?

In a compelling episode of The Catholic Gentleman, host John Heinen explored an intriguing connection between anxiety and spirituality.

His guest, successful business owner and devout Catholic David Kruse, shares his personal journey from an anxiety-ridden adolescence to spiritual rebirth.

As a troubled teenager, Kruse sought solace in music and battled substance abuse. However, a remarkable encounter at a music festival transformed his path.

“It was like the Lord saying, ‘David, where are you?’ …I immediately felt sober… I knew I had to get out of there,” Kruse shares.

Inspired by this profound experience, Kruse made a commitment to daily prayer, marking the beginning of his spiritual journey. Yet, it was not a straightforward path.

Anxiety, often seen as a debilitating mental health issue, was for Kruse a past “addiction.” This led him to mindfulness, journaling, and an embrace of the present moment.

“If I can actually just engage in what I would now call ‘the sacrament of the present moment’ … it goes away, that narrative actually just starts to go away.”

Kruse’s story provides a unique perspective on mental health within the Church and promotes a discourse on faith’s role in mental health recovery.

“We pray because it’s a conversation with Christ. We pray because God is seeking after you. That is how we grow in holiness.”

Kruse leaves us with a powerful message: “Don’t miss any opportunity you have to grow in Holiness.”

Let’s view our hardships not as barriers, but bridges to a closer relationship with God!

2 Corinthians 1:1-7
Psalms 34:2-9
Matthew 5:1-12

2 Corinthians 1:1-7
(1) Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the assembly of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia: (2) Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. (3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; (4) who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (5) For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ. (6) But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer. (7) Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that, since you are partakers of the sufferings, so also are you of the comfort.

Psalms 34:2-9
(2) My soul shall boast in Yahweh. The humble shall hear of it, and be glad. (3) Oh magnify Yahweh with me. Let us exalt his name together. (4) I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears. (5) They looked to him, and were radiant. Their faces shall never be covered with shame. (6) This poor man cried, and Yahweh heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. (7) Yahweh’s angel encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. (8) Oh taste and see that Yahweh is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him. (9) Oh fear Yahweh, you his saints, for there is no lack with those who fear him.

Matthew 5:1-12
(1) Seeing the multitudes, he went up onto the mountain. When he had sat down, his disciples came to him. (2) He opened his mouth and taught them, saying, (3) “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (4) Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. (5) Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth. (6) Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. (7) Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. (8) Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. (9) Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God. (10) Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven. (11) “Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake. (12) Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Deuteronomy 8:2-3,14-16
Psalms 147:12-15,19-20
1 Corinthians 10:16-17
John 6:51-58

Deuteronomy 8:2-3,14-16
(2) You shall remember all the way which Yahweh your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, to prove you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments, or not. (3) He humbled you, and allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know; that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth. (14) then your heart might be lifted up, and you forget Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage; (15) who led you through the great and terrible wilderness, with venomous snakes and scorpions, and thirsty ground where there was no water; who poured water for you out of the rock of flint; (16) who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers didn’t know; that he might humble you, and that he might prove you, to do you good at your latter end:

Psalms 147:12-15,19-20
(12) Praise Yahweh, Jerusalem! Praise your God, Zion! (13) For he has strengthened the bars of your gates. He has blessed your children within you. (14) He makes peace in your borders. He fills you with the finest of the wheat. (15) He sends out his commandment to the earth. His word runs very swiftly. (19) He shows his word to Jacob; his statutes and his ordinances to Israel. (20) He has not done this for just any nation. They don’t know his ordinances. Praise Yah!

1 Corinthians 10:16-17
(16) The cup of blessing which we bless, isn’t it a sharing of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, isn’t it a sharing of the body of Christ? (17) Because there is one loaf of bread, we, who are many, are one body; for we all partake of the one loaf of bread.

John 6:51-58
(51) I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. Yes, the bread which I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.” (52) The Jews therefore contended with one another, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” (53) Jesus therefore said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you don’t have life in yourselves. (54) He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. (55) For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. (56) He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him. (57) As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he who feeds on me, he will also live because of me. (58) This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna, and died. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

Tobit 12:1,5-15,20
Tobit 13:2,6-8
Mark 12:38-44

Tobit 12:1,5-15,20
(1) And Tobit called his son Tobias, and said to him, “See, my child, that the man which went with you have his wages, and you must give him more.” (5) And he called the angel, and said to him, “Take half of all that you all have brought.” (6) Then he called them both privily, and said to them, “Bless God, and give him thanks, and magnify him, and give him thanks in the sight of all that live, for the things which he has done with you. It is good to bless God and exalt his name, showing forth with honor the works of God. Don’t be slack to give him thanks. (7) It is good to keep close the secret of a king, but to reveal gloriously the works of God. Do good, and evil won’t find you. (8) Good is prayer with fasting, alms, and righteousness. A little with righteousness is better than much with unrighteousness. It is better to give alms than to lay up gold. (9) Alms delivers from death, and it purges away all sin. Those who give alms and do righteousness will be filled with life; (10) but those who sin are enemies to their own life. (11) Surely I will keep nothing closed from you. I have said, ‘It is good to keep close the secret of a king, but to reveal gloriously the works of God.’ (12) And now, when you prayed, and Sarah your daughter-in-law, I brought the memorial of your prayer before the Holy One. When you buried the dead, I was with you likewise. (13) And when you did not delay to rise up, and leave your dinner, that you might go and cover the dead, your good deed was not hidden from me. I was with you. (14) And now God sent me to heal you and Sarah your daughter-in-law. (15) I am Raphael, one of the seven holy angels, which present the prayers of the saints, and go in before the glory of the Holy One.” (20) Now give God thanks, because I ascend to him that sent me. Write in a book all the things which have been done.”

Tobit 13:2,6-8
(2) For he scourges, and shows mercy. He leads down to the grave, and brings up again. There is no one that will escape his hand. (6) If you turn to him with your whole heart and with your whole soul, to do truth before him, then will he turn to you, and won’t hide his face from you. See what he will do with you. Give him thanks with your whole mouth. Bless the Lord of righteousness. Exalt the everlasting King. I give him thanks in the land of my captivity, and show his strength and majesty to a nation of sinners. Turn, you sinners, and do righteousness before him. Who can tell if he will accept you and have mercy on you? (7) I exalt my God. My soul exalts the King of heaven, and rejoices in his greatness. (8) Let all men speak, and let them give him thanks in Jerusalem.

Mark 12:38-44
(38) In his teaching he said to them, “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk in long robes, and to get greetings in the marketplaces, (39) and the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts: (40) those who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.” (41) Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, and saw how the multitude cast money into the treasury. Many who were rich cast in much. (42) A poor widow came, and she cast in two small brass coins, which equal a quadrans coin. (43) He called his disciples to himself, and said to them, “Most certainly I tell you, this poor widow gave more than all those who are giving into the treasury, (44) for they all gave out of their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, gave all that she had to live on.”
