1 Kings 12:26-32,13:33-34
(26) Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will return to David’s house. (27) If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in Yahweh’s house at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.” (28) So the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and behold your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” (29) He set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan. (30) This thing became a sin; for the people went even as far as Dan to worship before the one there. (31) He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi. (32) Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar. He did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made, and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made. (33) After this thing Jeroboam didn’t return from his evil way, but again made priests of the high places from among all the people. Whoever wanted to, he consecrated him, that there might be priests of the high places. (34) This thing became sin to the house of Jeroboam, even to cut it off, and to destroy it from off the surface of the earth.

Psalms 106:6-7,19-22
(6) We have sinned with our fathers. We have committed iniquity. We have done wickedly. (7) Our fathers didn’t understand your wonders in Egypt. They didn’t remember the multitude of your loving kindnesses, but were rebellious at the sea, even at the Red Sea. (19) They made a calf in Horeb, and worshiped a molten image. (20) Thus they exchanged their glory for an image of a bull that eats grass. (21) They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, (22) Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome things by the Red Sea.

Mark 8:1-10
(1) In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to himself, and said to them, (2) “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have stayed with me now three days, and have nothing to eat. (3) If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come a long way.” (4) His disciples answered him, “From where could one satisfy these people with bread here in a deserted place?” (5) He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.” (6) He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves. Having given thanks, he broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve, and they served the multitude. (7) They had a few small fish. Having blessed them, he said to serve these also. (8) They ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets of broken pieces that were left over. (9) Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then he sent them away. (10) Immediately he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the region of Dalmanutha.
