Matthew 6:1-6,16-18

2 Corinthians 9:6-11
(6) Remember this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly. He who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. (7) Let each man give according as he has determined in his heart; not grudgingly, or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver. (8) And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that you, always having all sufficiency in everything, may abound to every good work. (9) As it is written, “He has scattered abroad, he has given to the poor. His righteousness remains forever.” (10) Now may he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food, supply and multiply your seed for sowing, and increase the fruits of your righteousness; (11) you being enriched in everything to all generosity, which produces through us thanksgiving to God.

Psalms 112:1-4,9
(1) Praise Yah! Blessed is the man who fears Yahweh, who delights greatly in his commandments. (2) His offspring will be mighty in the land. The generation of the upright will be blessed. (3) Wealth and riches are in his house. His righteousness endures forever. (4) Light dawns in the darkness for the upright, gracious, merciful, and righteous. (9) He has dispersed, he has given to the poor. His righteousness endures forever. His horn will be exalted with honor.

Matthew 6:1-6,16-18
(1) “Be careful that you don’t do your charitable giving before men, to be seen by them, or else you have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. (2) Therefore when you do merciful deeds, don’t sound a trumpet before yourself, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may get glory from men. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. (3) But when you do merciful deeds, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand does, (4) so that your merciful deeds may be in secret, then your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. (5) “When you pray, you shall not be as the hypocrites, for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Most certainly, I tell you, they have received their reward. (6) But you, when you pray, enter into your inner room, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. (16) “Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. (17) But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; (18) so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you.
