Welcome, dear reader, to the little-known world of Baby Jesus theft.

For those unfamiliar with this nefarious practice, Baby Jesus theft is the act of stealing figurines or other representations of the infant Jesus from Nativity scenes.

Nativity scenes, often found on the lawns of churches, schools, and homes, are an important part of our Christmas tradition.

Every year around the Christmas season, a shadowy underground network of thieves and pranksters emerges, determined to carry out their annual tradition of stealing Baby Jesus from outdoor (and sometimes indoor) Nativity scenes.

These crimes are usually carried out by bored teenagers looking for a thrill, but they can also be committed by adults who seek to profit from the stolen items by selling them.

For example, less than week ago over $10,000 of Nativity scene pieces were stolen from inside St. Michael Catholic Church in Tybee Island, Georgia.

In some cases, the Baby Jesuses are simply taken and then abandoned elsewhere, causing confusion and frustration for those who have to go and find them.

In other cases, the thieves will go to great lengths to execute elaborate heists, sneaking past security guards and then evading the watchful eyes of the law afterwards.

Whatever the motivations of the perpetrators and no matter how the crime is carried out, Baby Jesus theft is a serious crime that can have a profound impact on the victims.

For those whose nativity displays have been targeted, the loss of the baby Jesus figurine can be a deeply distressing event, as it represents an important part of their holiday traditions and beliefs.

Pray for an end to Baby Jesus theft! 🙏
