The Archdiocese of Seoul, South Korea, celebrated a historic moment on February 3, when 24 new priests and 20 new deacons were ordained.

The ceremony was led by Archbishop Jeong Soon-taek, the Titular of the Archdiocese of Seoul. This latest ordination brought the number of priests in the Archdiocese to 981, making it the first time the Archdiocese has had over 1,000 priests in its history.

The day before, on February 2, a separate ordination ceremony was held at the Cathedral of Myeongdong for the new deacons.

During the ceremony, 18 deacons of the Archdiocese of Seoul were ordained, along with one Redemptorist of the International Missionary Theological Seminary.

The theme of the 2023 ordination ceremony was chosen by the candidates for ordination:

“Behold, I make a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels” (Exodus 34:10)

During the ceremony, one candidate said:

“I pray with both hands that You will bless the beginning of these new priests who want to live as true servants at the Lord’s holy altar and pray with them.”

The Archdiocese of Seoul has experienced a recent surge in vocations, a “vocational boom.”

With the addition of these new priests and deacons, the Archdiocese says they will only continue to grow and serve the people of South Korea.

Pray for the faith in South Korea!
