1 John 3:13-18
(13) Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you. (14) We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death. (15) Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him. (16) By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. (17) But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him? (18) My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.
Psalms 116:10-13,16-17
(10) I believed, therefore I said, “I was greatly afflicted.” (11) I said in my haste, “All men are liars.” (12) What will I give to Yahweh for all his benefits toward me? (13) I will take the cup of salvation, and call on Yahweh’s name. (16) Yahweh, truly I am your servant. I am your servant, the son of your servant. You have freed me from my chains. (17) I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call on Yahweh’s name.
John 15:12-17
(12) “This is my commandment, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. (13) Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. (14) You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you. (15) No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you. (16) You didn’t choose me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain; that whatever you will ask of the Father in my name, he may give it to you. (17) “I command these things to you, that you may love one another.
