  1. Be careful what you pray for, Ryan Scheel! =) Two months to the day of this post, bishops everywhere decreed the closure of every diocesan church to public worship, and I blame you, teehee! Drastic way to get what you want, an immediate end to all 15 pet peeves, served to you on a silver platter. I’m all for old-school and traditional values and practices but less overtly next time?!
Seriously though, Mass must never be corrupted into mere entertainment, remaining solemnly true to early church teachings. My own personal irk is when parishioners want to talk or smile on their (or my) way to receive the Sacrament of Communion, when the mind and heart and spirit should be engaged in a pious Act of Contrition. And with lowered eyes should return to the pew, for more prayer. My mother was in the choir for 40yrs. so I let her sing! In grade 3, my Catholic elementary school class wrote individual prayers to recite after receiving Holy Communion, and I taught it to my 4 kids (now adults) and we still kneel reverently to give thanks, uniting ourselves to Jesus. I was taught to let the Sacrament dissolve on my tongue and chewing would bring consequences, since my dad served the Latin Mass daily as an altar boy in the 30s/40s and had profound reverence for that time spent in prayer after Communion. I was 23 years old before I had ever touched the Eucharist with my hands, shaking.
