Pope Francis shared his monthly prayer intention video for September, urging the faithful to pray for the cry of the earth.

Pope Francis’ Worldwide Prayer Network of the Apostleship of Prayer developed “The Pope Video” initiative in 2016 as a way to spread the Holy Father’s monthly prayer intentions on the challenges humanity faces in a video based format.

“Let us pray for the cry of the Earth. If we take the planet’s temperature, it will tell us that the Earth has a fever and is unwell.

Any patient is unwell, but do we hear this pain? Do we hear the pain of the millions of victims of environmental disasters? Those who suffer the most from these disasters are the poor, those who are forced to leave their homes due to floods, heatwaves, or droughts.

Addressing the environmental crises caused by humans, such as climate change, pollution, or the loss of biodiversity, demands not only ecological responses but also social, economic, and political ones. We must commit to the fight against poverty and the protection of nature by changing our personal habits and those of our communities.

Let us pray that each one of us may listen with our hearts to the cry of the Earth,
the cry of the victims of environmental disasters and climate change,
committing ourselves personally to caring for the world we live in.”
