2116 All forms of divination are to be rejected: recourse to Satan or demons, conjuring up the dead or other practices falsely supposed to “unveil” the future. Consulting horoscopes, astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis, other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers. They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to God alone.

  1. I don’t know about this in the Catechism because a great number of saints were considered to be mystics and had the power (?) to read souls. It appears that this is in direct conflict with 2116. Any comments by those more attuned than I?

    • I think the message here is, not to trust/use things like the ouija board or to seek out someone who says they can tell you your future. The saints and prophets that were given the ability to see the future, was not for their own aggrandizement, but for the benefit of humanity. They were given these abilities to help/warn people to turn from path of sin (like when Jonah, who was told of the destruction of Nineveh, if the people there did not repent and turn from their evil ways.)
